Treated Wood

ACQ (Alkaline Copper Quaternary) and CCA (Chromated Copper Arsenate) are water based wood preservative methods whereby chemicals are applied using a vacuum and pressure cycle. Once dry these chemicals act as a fungicide and insecticide and prevent the wood from fading when exposed to UV rays. Species most commonly used in Pressure Treated wood manufacture are Hemlock, Spruce, Pine and Fir.

Our selection of Treated Wood products include:

  • CCA Plywood Strips (or ‘Rainscreen’)
  • #2 & Better 4×6 and 6×6 Posts
  • #3 Landscape Grade 4×6 and 6×6 Posts
  • 1×4, 2×4, 2×6, 2×8, 2×10 and 2×12 dimensional lumber
  • 3-1/2″ and 4-1/8″ Posts
  • Landscape Ties
  • Treated Plywood

Both CCA and ACQ treatment methods deter bugs and prevent decay and therefore Pressure Treated Wood is commonly used for in-ground applications such as for Fence Posts and Landscape-ties as well as above-ground applications such as Joists and Beams for Decks and other structures.

Things to consider when working with Treated Wood

Both ACQ and CCA Treated Lumber contain high levels of Copper and are therefore extremely corrosive to bare metal. We recommend using Simpson Strong-Tie Zemax Connectors, Ceramic or Epoxy Coated Screws, Hot-dipped Galvanized or Stainless Steel fasteners in all treated wood products.

Freshly Treated Wood will also retain a high moisture content for months and must be dried extensively before painting – otherwise leeching will occur resulting in failure of the applied paint or stain. You can find a range of suitable products in-store and as well as helpful advice from our friendly and experienced staff.
